Valentines day in Japan is celebrated somewhat different than a lot of other countries.
In Japan, the women give out chocolate to men on Valentines day. Then, one month later on White Day, the guys give return gifts to women who gifted them chocolates on Valentine’s Day.
There are two kinds of chocolates given by Women on Valentine’s day in Japan.
“Giri-choco” (obligation chocolate), and “Honmei-choco” (love chocolate). Giri-choco is meant to be for friends, colleagues, bosses, and close male friends. Honmei-choco is for boyfriends, lovers, or husbands with true love.
Exactly one month later on March 14th, White Day, men return gifts to the women who gifted them chocolates on Valentine’s Day. So there you have it….
